It does if you have the latest TinyROM, 1.2(2), as this person does.
There is a bug in all previous versions. Just used this command
myself to activate an upgrade of my own image. The old fashioned way
you mention still of course works. Also, to fully get rid of the
previous image (after booting the new one), use 'squeeze flash:'.
