Strange problem: while connected to remote site, WS can't ping remote server

Is it possible that the remote site (connected via ISDN) does not
know the route to your local network through the ISDN connection?
In that case it would not reply. Check the routing table on the
remote site when the ISDN link is up. Also, if you use some kind of
dynamic routing, it should take some time before the remote site
learns about the networks available via ISDN (unless you use
snapshot routing).

1. can't ping remote sites

I am attempting to get ppp going in a SuSe 6.1 installation and can get the
connection established, but once that is done I can not ping any remote
machines.

I have ppp running fine on the same machine, but in another Linux installation
in another partition. I can't see what the difference between the two is, except
one is set up to use diald and the other (Suse) is not. Actually I can ping some
machines on the other side - the name servers, if I go by IP address.

I'd really appreciate any help....
