Tandem 4mm DAT Question

Tandem 4mm DAT Question

Post by John Anderso » Wed, 23 Jul 1997 04:00:00

Has anyone tried to interface a non-5145 (Peripheral Vision) drive to
a Nonstop K Series Platform?

I am looking for a spare drive to help the load and am trying to avoid
purchasing a new unit.  Used 5145's are very difficult to obtain.

Yes, and it didn't work. The K-series does not support generic SCSI
tape drives. Only devices which can emulate the hardware interface
of a Tandem 5170, e.g., will work.

PV is not the only vendor of compatible devices, by the way, but they
are the vendor that Tandem selected to provide the drives that carry
the Tandem nameplate -- which ought to tell you something.
