ArcView Limits

Just a general question to tap your collective experience....

Am in the early stages of developing a "Permitting and Licensing" project
under ArcView 3.0a where the respective permits are associated with
individual parcels of land.  I plan to use a shapefile to represent the
parcels of land in a particular community or communities.  The question is;
what are the effective limitations to using a shapefile ?  That is, can the
shapefile represent 2,000 parcels or 10,000 or a 150,000 parcels ?  I've
looked in some of the tech docs for the published limit but found none,
however what is likely more useful are user experiences...  how many polys
can I get in a shape file and still make it practical ?  If relevant, lets
assume a mid level NT based PC with lots of disk space, and over 64Mb, also
assume three user defined attributes per poly.

Looking forward to any opinions offered.....

Mark

ArcView Limits

Hi there:
I have had themes with as much as 50000 polygons without any problem using
Win95 based machines. If I am not wrong, there is a limit in ArcView PC with
the maximum number of arcs apolygon may have. If I remember correctly, this
number is 10000 arcs per polygon.
THe display is probably going to be slow. I displayed the theme described above
as an Arc coverage in a P90, Win95, SCSI architecture and 32 MB RAM machine,
and it took about 5-7 minutes. I know that shapefile format is faster than Arc
coverage, but probably it would take at least 1-2 minutes in a more modern
machine.

1. 80 Char limit of Tables in Layout - ArcView

Hello-

I want to know if anyone else has run into the 80 charecter limit when
bringing an ArcView Table into a Layout for printing.

I have looked it up in help in AV 3.0, and AV3.1.  Both help docs say that
there is an 80 char limit, and the workarounds do not seem to work.

Has anyone on this group developed a workaround for this problem that
works???
