Bypassing CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT

Bypassing CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT

Post by Hung Hing F » Tue, 12 Mar 1996 04:00:00

MS-DOS 6.2x has a capability of bypassing CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT
during boot-up by pressing function key F5.  Is it possible to disable
this feature, so that CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT is always executed?

Add the following line to your config.sys:

SWITCHES=/N

This disables the F5 and F8 key on boot-up.

For more info, type 'help switches' at the dos prompt.

Put BootKeys=0 in your msdos.sys under [options]

Config.sys should NOT be executed, he said.

1. MSDOS62 and no io.sys, config.sys autoexec.bat blank hard drive

I'm trying to help out some kids in a "home". Someone has formatted the
hard drive. I can't figure out how to get it back running. It will boot to
MS-DOS6.2, but it tells me I have no io.sys, no config.sys and no
autoexec.bat. I'm finding out what a rookie I am in this area... groan, I
have researched all sorts of stuff off this site and others. Not getting
anywhere. The cdrom drivers are correct ones but won't let me install them
without io.sys, config. etc.....I try to edit the autoexec and the config
files but they don't exist...WHAT am I doing wrong? please help
thanks:)           yours truly, rookie n novice
