Can't remove a directory under DOS6?

Post by Nelson Ch » Mon, 08 Nov 1993 18:35:03

Hi there,
I found a problem after I installed DOS6 (with dblspace part of my HD as
well) yesterday. I can't remove one of the subdirectory without any reason
that I know (well, I mean directory no empty, that sort of thing!) The error
message is 'Cannot remove current directory'! The problem is illustrated
below:

The directory that I'm in: C:\UNI
The directory that I want to remove: C:\UNI\PROJECT

There are no file(s) (including hidden one) in C:\UNI\PROJECT and it is
the only directory in C:\UNI (there are some before but all of them can be
removed without any trouble). I tried to use deltree, rd commands and even
the file manager of Windows but none of them do the job for me. In Window,
the error message is 'Internal Error'!

This is a bit odd to me. Perhaps, I shouldn't use the dblspace!!! Thanks
in advance to all those that help. Hope this is a sensible question to ask.

I'd run Norton Disk Doctor if I were you..
there's probably some misallocated chain that is shared by your directory &
some other files.. Run NDD & hopefully that'll fix it..

hope that helps..

1. Can't remove directory - tried suggestions

  I have a subdirectory c:\bobcat\bobcat that I can't remove even
though the only files in it under DIR command are the dot and the
double dot files.
In regards to hidden files I was able to do an "attrib -r *.*"
and then a "del *.*" but that didn't do the trick. My DOS version
is 3.3 and when I try an "attrib -h -s *.*" I get a message that
I have a "syntax error". According to my sources the parameters
-h ans -s came around in DOS Ver. 5.0. I believe that what I did
with the ATTRIB command should have eliminated any hidden files.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Does anyone know of any batch utilities that can alter the
attributes of a file. I've found one called "ALTER" but when
I use the parameter ALTER /N *.* it ties up my computer and
I have to reboot the computer. This I don't understand because
the ALTER command will hide files for me okay. If you know of
any other ones can you please let me know?
If hidden files isn't the problem does anyone know what else
could be the problem.
