Yep, sure an alias will do, but if 4DOS is 100% percent transparent
to COMMAND.COM ( |-P ), then 4DOS *should* read the DIRCMD var..

I queried JP Software about 4DOS 4.02's "support" for DIRCMD (NDOS 6 supported
it) and was informed that 4.02 doesn't recognize it.  One can define an alias
for DIR which uses the DIRCMD variable, but 4DOS is supposed to be 100%
compatible.  Damn annoying!

1. DIRCMD in autoexec.bat files...

I've only been using 4dos 4.0 for about a month and a half, and I
love it!  But, I have run into a problem.  I use to have switched set for
my dir command so every time I typed dir, the switches /p and /o would be
called.  Ever since I intalled 4dos, however, I haven't been able to get
that to work.  I'm running dos 6.0 right now!  Does anybody have a suggestion?
