Shouldn't Developing and Implementing Windows?-based Applications with
Microsoft? Visual Basic? .NET and Microsoft? Visual Studio? .NET exam count
as an elective to MCSD, even if you take Designing and Implementing Desktop
Applications with Microsoft? Visual Basic? 6.0 exam?

Excert from http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/exams/70-176.asp ...

When you pass the Developing and Implementing Windows?-based Applications
with Microsoft? Visual Basic? .NET and Microsoft? Visual Studio? .NET exam,
you achieve Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) status. You also earn
credit toward the following certifications:

a.. Core credit toward Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD) for
Microsoft .NET certification
b.. Core or elective credit toward Microsoft Certified Application
Developer (MCAD) for Microsoft .NET certification

Good question!
I am also curious to know the answer...

I've looked at this question, read it through three times and concluded that
it makes no sense.

Do you mean MCT? or MCSD? or maybe MCSD? .NET?? Maybe you mean MCAD?. Beats
me. Sorry. :)?

What he's asking is...

If you passed the VB6 track MCSD exams, shouldn't the .NET VB.NET exams
count towards elective credit for the Visual Studio 6 MCSD? My answer is no,
I doubt they would but I don't know for sure.

I think Microsoft is keeping "MCSD" and "MCSD.NET" two separate
certifications with 2 separate exam requirements but, like I said, I'm not
100% sure.

Is that the Q. Jason? Oh well, you're right anyway if that's it. There's a
least one elective that is on both exam tracks e.g. 70-229 (SQL Server 2000)

My first question....
Shouldn't Developing and Implementing Windows?-based Applications with
Microsoft? Visual Basic? .NET and Microsoft? Visual Studio? .NET exam count
as an elective to MCSD, even if you take Designing and Implementing Desktop
Applications with Microsoft? Visual Basic? 6.0 exam?

My revised question...
Shouldn't Developing and Implementing Windows?-based Applications with

exam(70-306) count
as an elective to MCSD (not .NET), even if you take Designing and
Implementing Desktop
Applications with Microsoft? Visual Basic? 6.0 exam(70-176)?
If they are trying to keep the tracks separate, then why have common
electives? If they are not separate, shouldn't the common electives count?

even if you take Designing and

You see this is what I have a hard time even 2nd time round. I don't see
what this has got to do with anything so I'll just ignore it.

The answer is still a definitive no. The tracks are largely seperate. Look
at it historically, Microsoft? release an exam for SQL Server? 7.0 and that
goes as an elective on the old track. Then Microsoft? release one for SQL
Server? 2000 and make it a new elective for the old track. SQL Server? 2002
or whatever it is hasn't come along yet so they make it an elective on the
new MCSD track. But also note for example that the SQL Server? 2000 exam is
a core exam for the MCDBA track.
Okay????? :)?

Bottom line: Read what's posted on the Training and Certification area of
Microsoft's website

www.microsoft.com/traincert/

If it doesn't say that 70-176 counts towards MCAD or MCSD (.NET) core or
elective credit, then it won't. end of story.

Art, I understood fully. What I am saying is this:

Go to the page for the 70-306 exam on MS's site.

If it doesn't not say that the 70-306 can be counted towards elective credit
for the MCSD (not .NET) then it can't be.

For each exam, MS tells you which tracks it can be used as core and/or
electives for.

Because the electives are on current versions of their respective products
and those products can be used by both VS6 and VS.NET developers?

I agree with you Jason, but I keep thinking why the heck
not?  Maybe an MS person, if they read this board, could
answer that.

Our choices now are to work towards what will effectively
(if not officially) be an obsolete certification or
towards one that we can't complete for another year
because the exams won't be completed yet.  I suppose the
best thing is to take the .NET exams, and just put up
with not being certified for awhile.

Or such is my understanding, I'm new to the certification
game.
