PDF documentation index - CW8

Post by Optimum Onlin » Sat, 10 Nov 2001 02:38:17

I just installed CW8.
There is no PDF index (index.pdx file and index subdirectory) for the CW8
docs in
    ...\CodeWarrior for Palm OS\CodeWarrior Manuals\PDF
There was such an animal in CW7.
The index substantially simplifies documentation lookups.

Did I miss something?

No... it just didn't get shipped in CW Palm 8.  I'm adding it to the
spec list for the 8.1 patch.

1. HELP with PDF documentation, linking and indexing

Hello everyone,

I am new to this group and I need all the help I can get !

First let me state that I do not expect people to waste their time solving
my problems since they are a few and I am new to PDF creation contrary to
most of you (judging by the msgs), *but* any guidance to online
tutorials/info , books, and especially suggestions would be *greatly
appreciated*.

I was given the following task (please bear with me :) ) :
Create the proceedings (CD-ROM) AND book of abstracts (book) from a set of
Word or WP files for a Conference.
The word files have to respect certain restrictions: size, font, paragraph
format, etc.  and may contain graphics and tables (these are scientific
papers) and will be given to me preformatted (at least ....).

For the book of abstracts:
since it has to be printed, I think my best bet is Pagemaker. The book needs
to contain a TOC and a primary and secondary author index and a
University/company index.
Printers accept only pagemaker or Quark files.

-- any suggestions ?

For the CD-ROM things are more messy:

It contains a "visually pleasing" (i.e. graphics ) first page with buttons
that trigger the TOC (for welcome messages , etc.) author index, timetable
of presentations (i.e. papers) etc. , ALL of which are linked.

How do I create a nice interface (HTML --> PDF maybe ?) and how do I create
triggers (in the form of buttons) that bring up a specific PDF or start the
built-in search etc ???
I will also need to create an Index, etc.

Is Adobe Writer or Distiller appropriate or do I need another tool ?

Please accept my apologies for the length of this message  but I feel a bit
lost in all these technical questions.

Thank you in advance for any help or guidance.

Steve
