Hi all Adrian (Very new to VPN )  with a problem ,

We have just had ADSL installed at work (all windows 2000 machines ) and I
am trying to set up VPN ,

when I try and connect to my server through a Zyxel 310 Router (address
213.236.249.41) I get the error message "there was no answer " , the server
has a fixed IP address of 192.168.0.1 , as my server has a fixed IP address
it can not go onto the internet , is this a problem ? do I need to configure
my server to assign IP address automaticaly from the DHCP on the router ? ,
if so it will*up connections to machines inside my LAN trying to
access the server ?? .

This is the NAT Server Setup , inside the Zyxel router ---

I can ping the router ok  .

Rule   Start Port No.   End Port No.   IP Address

              ---------------------------------------------------

                 1.    Default          Default        0.0.0.0

                 2.      0                0            0.0.0.0

                 3.      1723             1723         192.168.0.1

Any ideas ?????????????

VPN connection Problems

Hi Adrian,

it seems to ba a routing problem here.
The ip-adress of your server is ok. The mapping of the Port 1723 (PPTP)
too.
(i don't know why the Route rule 2 is set to  0 0 0.0.0.0??? - does this
make sense, or was it just left blank)
But you can't go onto the internet from this server (192.168.0.1),
right? - that's a problem here.

So in this case the route does not point on the (Private)Interface of
the Router (192.168.0.x)
Check this route or add it on the server (route add 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0
192.168.0.x)

This should solve your problem, if not - post again.

cheers

Robert

1. VPN connection problems using Wireless-G Router w/ SpeedBooster (WRT54GS)

Hi all,

I've recently switched over to a Linksys wireless router (WRT54GS) and I've
also updated the firmware to the latest revision from the Linksys website.
When I try to connect to my company's VPN using the Cisco client, I am
able to successfully get a connection, but then I can't bring up any
network resources.  I can't terminal in to a remote machine or run any
applications that use network data.  When I connect my cable modem directly
to the internet without the router, the VPN works fine.

Any help would be appreciated!
