Hello,

Actually, "multi-read" capability is only necessary in order to read
CD-RW (CD-ReWritable) media. Most CD-ROM drives now in existence can
read CD-R discs; plus, ordinary "hi-fi" CD players are usually able to
handle properly-made audio CD-R's (but not CD-RW's of any kind, except
for a very small handful of new models).

Here is some information quoted from a "Ricoh" Web page that I
downloaded last month:

     "CD-RW Compatible CD-ROM Drives

Multiread?

I understand that a "multiread" CD-ROM drive is needed to read CD-R
disks. Is there a list anywhere of such compatible drives or do I just
assume that all drives past a certain date are thus capable?

Of particular interest is the Samsung 24x ATAPI, which I'm currently
considering. Does anyone know if this is multiread? Any other comments
on this drive?

                Cheers, Ben
