Sorry I can't remember what you were after in your original posting.
But if you want to know Atari prices from various countries I can
send you prices from Finland in a day or two when I get the latest
price catalog.

And what comes to Soviet-bloc: They are not connected yet.

Funny thing that you say so. But well I heard the day before yesterday
from Atari import people here in Finland that they are starting to sell
Stacy here in next month. I hope that this is not only sales scrap.
Anyway I got Finnish prices of them. Here they are.

Stacy   in November -89
TT      in the first od second quarter of -90 ? (bloody h*ll)
ATW     (it is possible that I see this in next week)

                                FIM
Stacy 1104      (1M/720K)       11 000,-
Stacy 1125      (1M/20M)        13 240,-

Yes. Hope so.

No I'm a sort of independent 'hobbyist'. I have started with PC machines
over three years ago. Now I have AT. I bought Atari ST1040 last June. And
I have ordered both Spectres. Mac ROMs I have already. I have a firm with
two of mates and we happen to found a customer who is quite willing to
consider to buy Stacy especially if he can use it as portable Mac and PC.

I keep here in University of Vaasa ftp'able directories of PD and ShareWare
software for PC and Mac. It is possible that I could start to keep also
Atari archive place... Now I take the programs from news-system but only
for myself.

        Hi,

Here are the Finnish Prices. All prices in FIM (Finland Mark about
4.2 USD). Prices are recommended retail prices.

        520 stfm         3790 :- (no monitor)
        Mega ST 2        9000 :-       "
        Mega ST 4       12000 :-       "

        SM 124            900 :-

        MegaFile 60      7000 :-

        SLM 804          9950 :-

        Portfolio        3950 :-

I called importer (Teknocomputer) and asked about stacey, TT, STE.
They said that if there is enough interest they will start importing
them. Person whom I talked with didn't sound very excited.

There is 20% discount automatically for students (not too bad, could be less).

If I recall correctly, Stacy is already selling in Norway. (Is this message
going to Norway anyway). I would like to have some addresses and prices, please.

        Hope this helps,

Nothing much I am afraid. The importer (TeknoComputer) does have a few
advertisements now and then, but they all advertise this gamescollection
'Superpack' or whatever. Nothing wrong with that (I love games), I just
wish that they would give promotion to the professional market now and
then. Of course we get new machines months after they have been annonced
(don't they all :-). No sign of Stacey/TT yet.Nor TOS 1.4.

It is somehow interesting when you read a computermagazine MikroBitti
which is only magazine for homecomputers and notice that the same
people who were using Commodore 64 and Spectravideo (MSX) years ago are
now using Amiga nad Atari ST (resp.). I used to have Spectravideo. And
the great battle goes on. (Not me, at least not often).

We have quite a few ST-clubs around the country (BBSs too). I haven't myself
joined any of them. I tend to get my software (both PD and commerc.) abroad.
I am seriously thinking of buying a TT. Maybe from West-Germany or England,
Norway is a possibility too. Seen any TTs lately ? Nah, guess not.

Where are you from anyway ? I'm not very good at guessing by path. USA ?
Canada ?

By the way, have you ever used Objectworks (programming enviroment for
Smalltalk-80). It should be availiable for Sun, Mac II, PC, ST (4 meg), etc..

Well got to rush, a lecture is about to start. (did I say rush :-)

! Markku ! (Want to hear how my name is pronaunced the finnish way,
that always gave me some chuckles in the USA, "Pardon" )

Do you mean Scandinavian made programs etc. Or products availiable in
Scandinavia ? I know one dealer but they are dropping ST for good.
They feel that it does't make enough profit. But I can have their
product list. But there aren't many Scandinavian products there.

I have read about PITTSBURGH in a book from Kurt Vonnegut. But did
you say California.  Oh boy, wanna trade universities ? I bet you
would love it here in winter (20 degr below 0 celsius, tons of snow :-).

        ! Markku !

P.S.  Did I mention polarbears ?

This is all the more reason NOT to print it.

The author of this survey might have provided a service by extracting
and collating the information that he said that he was collecting.
I think there were only 10 distinct respondents, so 30 lines might have
done it.

As it is, this posting looks like a dis-service.

The above seen differences are due to importer war here in Finland.
TeknoComputer has a contract with Atari Sweden for an import licence
to be ended in -90. But last year (-88) wasn't too succesful for them
and >90% of the personnel left and formed last spring a new company;
X-Computer. Now the TeknoComputer has replaced its lost staff and has
continued marketing Atari.

But! The new X-Computer had contacted Atari Corp. USA and made a deal
with them concerning the exclusive import rights. So they claim they're
the One and Only Importer, but so does TeknoComputer.

This is just the basic outline of the story, details omitted.
Anyway, the situation here in Finland is far from clear.
I just wish these differences could be solved and instead of
fighting each other, the Atari minded ppl here in Finland could
start *marketing* Atari and stop Finland turning into Amiga
country.
