OFFICE MEMO Antic/STart Magazines Date:3/18/92
Hello Atarians -
This is probably a FAQ, or at least old news, but does the publisher of
Antic and STart Magazines still exist somewhere? When my Antic Disk
subscription turned into a STart subscription (Nov. '90?), I called and
cancelled because I'm still an 8-bitter, and it didn't look like much would
apply. I was promised a $33 refund. Now, my cards and letters are returned,
and they left no forwarding address of phone number. Any info on them?

Well, I don't want to jump into a flame, but there's quite a bit of stuff on
the topic in the ST sig. From what I've heard, the owner solicited renewed
subscriptions, articles, advertizing then used the money to start a PC mag
(PC Home Journal????). In his defense, I've heard the rumor that a number
of advertisers were a year behind in their payments to Antic/Start. Writting
on the wall, with the Atari market dieing he then formed another company and
transferred ownership of the PC rag to it. His line is something like he was
just selling off assets to pay bills & it just happened that his new company
just happened to get the PC rag. The new company is not responsible for the
debts of the old. When & if it gets resolved, it will probably be in court.
I've got a few lawyer friends & they said (about other stuff) that a contract
that is just to avoid fiscal responsibility can be voided. For instance; just
before you lose a $1,000,000 lawsuit you sell your house to your brother for
$1 so it's not your asset. I don't think it'll go that far because the new
entity does not have enough bucks to interest the lawyers <g>.
