Hi all ya ! (TT Wizards)

Well the price and that it works I posted in comp.sys.atari.st.tech !

Now the Question: What should one do with such amount of memory ?

Don't forget MultiTOS. The more memory you have, the more Applications
you can run. Calamus itself, needs (fully uploaded here 20MEG) mem.
Can you imagine the whole Pure C System on a FAST-RAM Ramdisk ?
YOU CAN'T (believe me). The ridiculous 512KB needed for speeding up
the OS (RomRam) (really ridiculous).
Outside - VRam - whats that :) ? Don't need it any more. Did you ever
see Kobold with 30 MEG for his own ? Puuh !
Well and a small 2MEG Cache for the Gemdos and Folders should help
your System with its 10 Terra Hard-Disk :) .

I see the TT is just good for Games - like all ATARI-Stuff :)))

I always used the ATW for Space Invaders and Breakout.

Unix with 64MB (Well - Actually 74 (St-Ram)) ?? Without Swapping ?
All I can say: Cremedelacreme.

So long my dear Apprentices

Ciao

Well, I have an Amiga, but the only things that I think that anyone could use
that much for is--

Raytracing
RAM disk
A _very_ fast UNIX system

I've been wondering what someone would actually use that much for...

(there are now a couple commercial 32-bit RAM boards for the Amiga that hold
116 megs of RAM!?!)

That _would_ be nice...

Good luck figuring out how to use it!

I use Kobold with 18 Mbyte. Kobold only uses up to 10 Mbyte of ram, so there
is no difference with 18 or 30 or 64 Mbyte, is it? :-)
BTW, as far as I know TOS doesn't recognize TT ram correctly if you have more
than 16 Mbyte of it. Did you ever test if your programs really get all the
memory you have?

What (who? :) is Kobold?  Why does he (it) need 30MB?

And as far as neat ways of using 64MB, I like the idea of running
GCC2.2.1 (I believe...maybe its 2.1.2) on a 8-20MB RAM disk - especially if
it has the mintlibs to go with it.  BTW, has anyone made 2.1 compatable MINT
libs yet?

And of course the thought of running ASV on 64MB makes me feel gushy
inside...if/when they can release it with color support.

Glad one of you is.  (Just kidding...sheesh! :)

PS: Now that you've talked about having such a goody, how'd ya do it?

[a little deleted here and there...]

Well, at the 'local' dealer the other day, I saw a TT with 32 meg, and he
very nearly used all of it.  He scanned a picture at 600dpi, 24 bit color,
and the resulting file was 19 meg all by itself.  Having the whole thing
loaded into RAM and playing with it with Retouche Pro and Didot Pro was
absolutely stunning.  And no redraws, it just scrolled.  Amazing.

That still leaves another 32 meg to fill up, but it really isn't that
hard to imagine a use for it.
