Problems with kadmind

Post by Rex Bake » Tue, 04 Oct 1994 15:11:30

Hi all,

We're having a difficulty getting Kerberos V up and running here.

The situation is as follows:

        - start kadmind

        - on the same host, invoke kpasswd and enter old password
          at the prompt

        - BUT kpasswd fails with:

             Read Message Error: Software caused connection abort!

             Protocol Failure - Password NOT changed

          AND kadmind dumps core.  We're not exactly sure if the
          parent kadmind or its child is dumping the core.

Does anyone have any helpful pointers on what might be going on
here?  Did other Solaris 2.3 users have any difficulties similar
to these?

Thanks in advance.

Rex.

I have the same problem using all the Beta 4 versions.  Not
just under Solaris 2, but under SunOS 4 as well.  Haven't
had a chance to look into this in detail.  Truss shows kadmind
looping in signal code until it blows up with a huge core.

My temporary work around was to use the kadmind from the
Beta 3 release of Kerberos 5 with the newer Beta 4 binaries
of everything else.  Not sure what kind of problems could
result from this.  The piece I need to work, kpasswd, seems
to work fine.  I'm running the same SunOS generated binary
under both SunOS and Solaris.

Yes, I know.  It's grotesque.  But when you need a solution
fast, the grotesque can seem quite beautiful.

1. problems starting kadmind

All,

Okay, I've resolved the problem with kadmin.local. and now have the kdc
running.   Problem is that when I attempt to start
kadmin it complains about missing required perameter in the kdc.conf.  I
don't know what could be missing.  The error is:

cvg-65-27-166-212# /usr/local/sbin/kadmin

kadmin: Required parameters in kdc.conf missing while initializing kadmin
interface

The configuration file is as follows:

[kdcdefaults]
        kdc_ports = 750,88

[realms]
        <REALM> = {
                database_name = /usr/local/var/krb5kdc/principal
                admin_keytab = FILE:/usr/local/var/krb5kdc/kadm5.keytab
                acl_file = /usr/local/var/krb5kdc/kadm5.acl
                key_stash_file = /usr/local/var/krb5kdc/.k5.<REALM>
                kdc_ports = 750,88
                kadmind_port = 749
                max_life = 10h 0m 0s
                max_renewable_life = 7d 0h 0m 0s
                master_key_type = des-cbc-crc
                supported_enctypes = des-cbc-crc:normal des:normal des:v4
des:norealm des:onlyrealm des:afs3
        }

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
