MRTG and mrtg.cfg-problem!

Post by Tom Klinge » Sun, 24 Nov 2002 00:06:41

hello all,

i have generated a mrtg.cfg file with cfgmaker

an the result is the following:

######################################################################
# System: blabla.DE
# Description: Cisco Internetwork Operating System Software
#          IOS (tm) C2600 Software (C2600-I-M), Version 11.3(4)T1,
RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
#          Copyright (c) 1986-1998 by cisco Systems, Inc.
#          Compiled Wed 01-Jul-98 11:48 by phanguye

# Location:
######################################################################

SetEnv[12.345.678.900_1]: MRTG_INT_IP="12.345.678.900"
MRTG_INT_DESCR="Ethernet0/0"
MaxBytes[12.345.678.900_1]: 1250000
Title[12.345.678.900_1]: Traffic Analysis for 1 -- blabla.DE
PageTop[12.345.678.900_1]:<H1>Traffic Analysis for 1 --
blabla.DE<br></H1>
 <TABLE>
   <TR><TD>System:</TD>     <TD>blabla.DE in </TD></TR>
   <TR><TD>Maintainer:</TD> <TD></TD></TR>
   <TR><TD>Description:</TD><TD>Ethernet0/0  </TD></TR>
   <TR><TD>ifType:</TD>     <TD>ethernetCsmacd (6)</TD></TR>
   <TR><TD>ifName:</TD>     <TD>Et0/0</TD></TR>

   <TR><TD>Ip:</TD>         <TD>12.345.678.900 ()</TD></TR>
 </TABLE>

 ######################################################################

 it generates the web-report with:

 `Daily' Graph (5 Minute Average)
  with png "bytes per seconds"

 `Weekly' Graph (30 Minute Average)
 with png "bytes per seconds"

 `Monthly' Graph (2 Hour Average)
  with png "bytes per seconds"

`Yearly' Graph (1 Day Average)
 with png "bytes per seconds"

looks nice, but here the things (graphs) i REALLY want to have in the
result page:

total traffic per day
total traffic per week
total traffic per month
total traffic per year
traffic splitted in transfer-protocols (http, ftp etc.)

how can i configure that?
and how i know which informations i can get from the router?
yes, i read the pages on
http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/mrtg/ but i doesn`t
understand many things ;-)

thanks a lot...
tom

Hi,
Check the contrib directory under the unpacked MRTG distribbution, and there
are an summarizer there that can be used for :
total traffic per day
total traffic per week
total traffic per month
total traffic per year

"traffic splitted in transfer-protocols (http, ftp etc.)"
For this there isn't an good solution that I know about, maybee Ciscos
implementation of netflow could do this but you have an to old IOS for that

Kind regards
Mats Karlsson

thanks ;-)
the name of the tool is: ifcfg_traff.tar
(http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/mrtg/pub/contrib/ifcfg_traff.
tar)

little more question:

how i can change the following configuration so that ifcfg_traff logged
and show the graphs in Megabyte instead kilobyte?

#some configuration example:

Target[eth0]: `/usr/lib/mrtg2/ifcfg_traff`
Options[eth0]: nopercent,growright,noinfo,nobanner
Title[eth0]: eth0 Traffic
PageTop[eth0]: <h1>eth0 Traffic</h1>
MaxBytes[eth0]: 10000000000
kilo[eth0]: 1024
YLegend[eth0]: bytes
ShortLegend[eth0]: bytes
LegendI[eth0]: &nbsp;eth0 Traffic:
LegendO[eth0]:
Legend1[eth0]: eth0 Traffic in bytes
